telangana

hyderabad is the capital city of the state andhra pradesh. for the past couple years, there have been protests to make hyderabad it's own separate state: telangana. the native language in hyderabad is telugu (looks kinda like telangana, am i right?), and a lot of people are in support of this new state of telangana. a court decision was made last month to make telangana a separate state, but now the big issue is that both andhra pradesh and telangana want to claim hyderabad as their capital city. the protests can be extremely violent at the other university in hyderabad (they set train cars on fire on monday) but our university hosts peaceful protests and is on the opposite side of town.

for the past two days, there has been a bandh issued in hyderabad. a bandh is where the whole city protests by shutting down, roads, schools. bandh translates to "shut down." so being on campus has been pretty fun and relaxing and exciting since this would never happen in the u.s. of a. there are barracades on the roads leading to academic buildings and the main gate to campus. even in academic buildings, the students march through the halls loudly so classes cannot focus and continue. don't worry, we're safe

even though i've been stuck inside for the past few days, the happy part of my week was getting a package from my mom!

lovely valentines from my family
happy late valentines day to you all!
